WordPress drama ... I haven't read anything besides one article ( see
https://eric.mann.blog/wordpress-drama-from-the-sidelines/ [eric mann blog] ) but I think he makes his case well.
Personally, even when I considered WP Engine, I wondered how they got away with using that name. Does anyone remember when Mastodon declared some rules for anyone using "mastodon" in a domain or subdomain? Putting one's organization (especially a business org) in a position where a trademark infringement claim could be filed by your upstream is a major blunder.
Being blocked from the upstream project's servers because you don't contribute back to the upstream project is sort of the ultimate slapdown. It is calling you out for being a freeloader.
(I think Eric Mann said they didn't contribute back enough, whatever that is. Maybe that's relative to the load on the upstream for downloading updates.)
